We have asked MEPs to ask the Commissioner-designate for Justice (Věra Jourová) and Vice-President-designate for Fundamental Rights (Frans Timmermans) some key questions concerning their priorities in the new portfolios.
Following the designation of EU Commissioners on 10 September, the European Parliament will organise hearings with all the Commissioner-designates before voting to approve the new European Commission. These hearings will take place between 29 September and 7 October.
The questions submitted to MEPs focus on the following areas: EU action against hate crime; EU equal treatment legislation; EU strategies on equality; and a strategy to enforce human rights within the EU.
